Tuesday, August 22nd: Part C

…so to discover this way, to each day, your survival, your comfort, your survival, the numberless sentient beings, so many sentient beings, they have to suffer, have to be killed and the others create negative karma, so everything comes from that, whether the house, or food, clothing, the long run, the long evolution. So you check.

So, so therefore, impossible, impossible to live the life for oneself, to live the life for your own happiness, impossible if you think like that. [Long pause]

Thinking only one’s own happiness, my happiness, day and night, day and night one doing everything for that. So in other words, everything’s feeding the ego, working for the ego, feeding the ego, everything’s for the ego, the self-cherishing thought. Even meditation is for ego, even one try to practice Dharma, try to collect virtue, cause of happiness for the ego, even one chant mantra, even one, so, even after one has met Buddhadharma, no question before, even after one has met Buddhadharma, one has some understanding, some faith in karma and then, some faith to Buddha, Dharma, Sangha and then, some reliance on that, but still, you see, if one recite mantra it’s for ego, for my happiness, even one collect virtue by making offering to Buddha, Dharma, Sangha for my happiness.

No question about eating, walking, doing job, sleeping for my happiness, so it become extremely sad thing, say, no thought of benefiting, no knowledge, no thought of benefiting to all these numberless sentient beings from who create negative karma for all this, the house, food, and clothing, all these things, the negative karma harming others, for this, creating negative karma, harming others, so many have to suffer, so many have to be killed, numberless beings in the evolution of each of these. So completely, say, so from their side, if you from their side look at you, from their side, you see, you take their side and look at you, become most cruel or most selfish, most cruel being, you see, no thought benefiting them, or no, say, to cause happiness to them, to benefit something for them, to help something for them.

So all this comfort, enjoyment, survival and that which today, then, we’re able to, because of this, then able, say, have opportunity to practice Dharma, able to have this precious human body every day, every minute, every hour, minute, second, and because of that, then able to practice Dharma, opportunity to practice Dharma, so even in every second, even in every second, that you can achieve, not only the happiness future lives, but you can achieve also the ultimate happiness, total cessation of all the suffering and causes, ultimate happiness, even in every second, you can do with this precious human body, you can create cause to achieve that. In every second you can, also can cause to achieve enlightenment for sentient beings, the completion of all the qualities, all the cessations, all the mistakes of mind, so full enlightenment, you can achieve, to be able to liberate numberless sentient beings from the oceans of samsaric suffering and bring them in full enlightenment. So in every second with this perfect human rebirth, you can create the cause, in each of that.

So this is completely by the kindness of these numberless sentient beings, logically, without particular faith, without, here, here this kindness, you can see, dependant arising, so this, you can see, say, doesn’t need, say, particular religious faith that here that definitely by kindness of these numberless, all these sentient beings, as I mentioned before, all those who suffered, died and killed, those others created negative karma for the shelter, for the house, all these things, and food, clothing, all these things.

So even when we’re traveling, so, so many insects, ants, many things in the road, that, so, say, this is, till we’re old [?] so we have this incredible opportunities, this life came from each and every single, those numberless sentient beings.

So therefore, we have total responsibility, we have, say, to benefit for them, so immediately change our mind from cherishing I into cherishing others, the root of the path to enlightenment, so need to attain the lam-rim, the whole path to enlightenment to repay kindness for these all sentient beings.

Then no question, the numberless other sentient beings, all the rest of sentient beings, so to repay their kindness from whom one receive all the three time happiness from them, numberless past, present, future, all the happiness from each sentient being.

So here, even in break time from sitting meditation, how to make life meaningful, dedicating for sentient beings, so our activities not only to become Dharma but cause of enlightenment. So Buddha, from _ [Rinpoche speaks Tibetan] sutra, that which makes our conducts, daily life, pure, _ [Tibetan] sutra, that, our daily life conduct, which makes our daily life conduct pure. So I want to put it that way. _ [Tibetan]

There’s some things I have which is not there, so just, _ [?] the meaning is same, so Buddha gave some example, _ [?], same idea, dedicated for sentient beings, that, then action become cause of enlightenment.

So I said yesterday, in the morning when you wake up: ‘May all sentient beings achieve holy body of Buddha’. So when you dress: ‘May all sentient beings wear dress of shy and shame, the consideration to others’.

Of course, if one is living in this, if one is shy and shame, shy and the consideration to others, so then, you see, you are able to protect the karma, then you’re able to abandon negative karma, then, say, able to live in the pratimoksha vow, bodhisattva vow, tantric vow, those vows one has taken, then, dare not to break, so you can understand the point.

So, but even ordinary way of talking, when you have the shy and the shame treat towards others, shy and shame, then if you have that, you’re a good human being, even the ordinary way of talking, just common in the world, then if you have that, you’re a good human being, you not trying to engage in all sorts of cheating and deceiving, and also, criminal actions, whole thing, you know, harming others, you harming others, you don’t engage in that, just even normally in the world.

So when you put the belt, then: ‘May all sentient beings be bound with the three higher trainings, higher training of morality, higher training of concentration, higher training of wisdom’, that. And then, when you release, so that, I think maybe I but same idea, you know, so, see, just explain the what the Buddha explained, so then, Buddha gave idea how to do some examples, so this paramita _ [?]

So when you release the belt, then think, then dedicate: ‘May all sentient beings be liberated from the bondage of karma and delusion’, that.

So when you go to bed, then think, so after you lay down, see, then think: ‘May all sentient beings achieve dharmakaya’. Then of course, those who have received great initiation, highest tantra initiation or the lower tantra initiation, then there’s, even Chenrezig great initiation, then there’s, then there’s sleeping yoga, there’s sleeping yoga, even you received only lower tantra great initiation with that deity. So when you do that, then the tantra, the sleeping yoga to make the sleeping time, so usually, say, eight hours, nine hours, ten hours, how many hours of sleeping, so it’s very, become very important because so many hours sleeping, so very important how to make that, not waste the life and to not become negative karma, to especially, not only Dharma, but cause of, say, benefits for sentient beings, cause of enlightenment, only become cause of enlightenment, then benefit for sentient beings, so that.

And then the high tantra, if it’s for high tantric, this initiation, then it has sleeping yoga there and also arising yoga. So, practice, so when you practice those, you see.

Then so when you sleep, the, before falling asleep then this, mind, say, so you, like when you meditate, you set up the _ [Tibetan], so the Vairochana seven posture. So same, so when you go to sleep, so set up this, so that all this becomes condition, setting up proper condition for, so, to able to meditate, to concentrate without obstacles.

So here, when you go to sleep, then remember, by remembering Buddha, when he passed away in sorrowless state, in that position, the lion position, so lion laying down position.

So I didn’t see snow lion, this is not African lion laying down. This is not, say, so I didn’t see snow lion, I didn’t see snow lion in Solu Khumbu, I haven’t seen yeti yet, snowball man yet, I haven’t seen the yeti. So, anyway, so it’s snow _ [Tibetan] lion laying down, position of lion laying down, so must be that way. So perform the body in that way. So keep your legs together, then this side, right reek [?] on the bed, so put [showing, while explaining how to do this] like this, upside down, or up, say, so right side, [?] on the bed. So the right hand under your cheek. So anyway, so the left arm stretched on the body.

So by remembering Buddha also sleep with that position, by remembering Buddha, so then that helps, that helps, so mind get trained by remembering Buddha, then also when death comes, very easy to remember Buddha, very easy to remember Buddha.

So like this, daily life, whatever, you can remember Buddha, so each time when you go to bed like that, then the day when the most difficult, dangerous time, death comes, even that time, then very easy to remember Buddha and then you’re totally saved, you are totally, you are totally free from the lower realms, completely saved. So if at death time remember.

So, as you remember during Kyabje Choden Rinpoche’s teaching at Land of Medicine Buddha, so the last Dharma practitioner way of dying is, ‘Oh, I don’t need to be afraid of death because the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, that one can rely upon, that one, I can rely on Buddhadharma, because Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, that I can rely upon, so I don’t need to be scared.

So Rinpoche put it this way, the last three categories, you know, the Dharma practitioner, you see, dying, the great Dharma practitioner, middle Dharma practitioner, the lower Dharma practitioner. So this is the lower Dharma practitioner.

So, remembering Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, you see, around them completely grant, so, lower realm good-bye. Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, at death, lower realm good-bye. Buddha, Dharma, Sangha at the time of death, the hell, animal, hell, animal, say, hungry ghosts, lower realm good-bye, so that. So it helps preparation death.

Then sleeping in this position, then it helps, so it helps from spirit harm, you don’t receive spirit harm, you don’t get nightmares, night bears or nightmares, night time bears or nightmares. Anyway, so you’re protected .

Then the mind, it generate compassion to other sentient beings, bodhicitta all the, by thinking that, by thinking, say, I, action, object, all the phenomenas are nothing, say, what they are is what is merely imputed by mind, so therefore they are all totally empty. So just to continue the mind in that, then sleep.

So, however, guru devotion, so, your head is in front of guru, you know, that is numberless past, present, future buddhas, this is embodiment of numberless past, present, future buddhas, all the ten direction buddhas, so they see everything.

So you visualize the ordinary aspect or in the aspect of deity, you see, so then, so you do guru devotion, with that mind and try to fall asleep like that, or renunciation, bodhicitta, right view. So that’s …, so sleep is [?]

So so there’s four things which can be transformed in virtue, non-virtue, and, sleeping is one, so that can become non-virtue, also can become virtue, so this is very how to become virtue. So, of course, those who can practice during sleep, in dream time, say, those who can practice Dharma in dream, use Dharma, use the dream to practice Dharma, of course no question, those who can recognize, can meditate, recognize clear light during that time, there is no question.

My life is to benefit, say, to free the sentient beings from all the suffering and causes, and bring to enlightenment, therefore, I must achieve, therefore I’m going to practice yoga of sleeping You can do like that.

So, even not like that, then another common way is, purpose of my life is to free the sentient beings from all the suffering and causes and bring them to enlightenment. Therefore, I must achieve enlightenment. [Long pause]

I’m going to do, say, sleep, say, for, say, so for, say, for health, to serve others, to be able to serve others.

So even one cannot think enlightenment, all this, but even for ordinary people, say, who difficult to think about enlightenment, my purpose of my life is to help others, to benefit others, so therefore, going to sleep is like medicine, sleep for the long life or health to benefit others, to serve others, so that even we cannot understand, able to think about enlightenment, all those, so even so can dedicate the sleeping for others, for other sentient beings with the simple motivation, thought of benefit others, like that. So it becomes virtue. So if that is done, if sleeping is done with the right heart inside to benefit others, then it becomes virtue, so that.

So that, even there is not Buddhist, not particular Buddhist pray, but so still one can to help others, to benefit others, it’s universal, so then remember can understand, say, so that, say, though they need health and long life, to sleep, like that, so that.

So it is mentioned in the Lamrim Chenmo that, by Lama Tsongkhapa, that you clean your feet before going to bed so that the sleeping doesn’t become very heavy, so easy to wake up, clean your feet, wash your feet and then go to sleep, so that helps I think to sleep not to become heavy so that one can get, then helps to wake up easily, so that one can wake up earlier to do practice.

Also mentioned to think light, so mind to think light, so that also helps, when one starts sleeping, think of light also helps, so the sleep to not become heavy, so then easy to wake up for practice.

So then it is said, in the mind, make strong determination when one go to bed to get up early and to practice, very strong determination, so then that helps next morning be to, so inspiration to, able to get up early and then to practice, so like that.

So Lama Tsongkhapa said should be like animal, night time, with animals, they sleep, they pay attention, say, they keep the ears up, so cautious that not totally asleep, they keep the ears up in case the enemy comes, then other animal, enemy, or can be also human beings too, to harm, so that one can run away or so they can protect, so alert.

So nowadays, nowadays many times mentioned on TV, alert, in the United States, mentions many times to be alert. So I don’t know how you can be alert, so since the New York towers’ destroyed, announced many times to be alert.

So anyway, so the Lamrim Chenmo explained that, to be alert, so that, in the heart, so, strong determination to do the practice. So then when it’s there, then, when you go to bed, then that helps to, morning able to early to do the practice. So it helps the mind don’t become weak, carry on sleeping, carry on sleeping then missing the practice.

So when you, so when you get up, then think: 'May all sentient beings rise up from the oceans of samsaric suffering.' [Long pause] So when you do, say, when you enter in the gompa or in your room, every time when you enter in your room or in the gompa, then you think: ‘May all sentient beings be entered in the supreme city, in the city of the great liberation, the full enlightenment’.

So here it’s the city of sorrowless state, it says. So that’s, it means lower nirvana. However, so you see, great liberation, that’s full enlightenment, the non-abiding sorrowless state.

Then you pray like this and then you think, I’m bringing the sentient beings to the supreme city of the great liberation. I’m bringing all sentient beings to the supreme city of great liberation, so that. You make prayer and also you think you’re bringing the sentient beings to supreme city of great liberation, so that.

So when you go out, the gompa or your room then: ‘May all sentient beings be free from prison of samsara’. Then also in your mind, think, in your mind you think: ‘I’m liberating or bringing out all the sentient beings from prison of samsara.’

When you open the door, then you can pray, and also think: ‘I’m opening the door for sentient beings, for all the sentient beings, the door of the wisdom’, what the Buddha explained, ‘the door of the wisdom, transcendental wisdom beyond from the’, Geshe Sopa Rinpoche used the translation ‘mundane world’ jigten, say, you pray and also you think you’re opening door, you open for all the sentient beings, the door of transcendental wisdom beyond from the mundane world, beyond from samsara.

Then when you close, this one I don’t think is there, but I just added, but anyway the same. You pray and you think: ‘May all sentient beings’, say, ‘I’m closing the door, samsaric door for all sentient beings, I’m closing’.

Then, then every time when you sit down, you think,: ‘I will lead all sentient beings to enlightenment, each time when you sit down’.

So when you open the door, what the Buddha explained is the door of the transcendental wisdom gone beyond the mundane world, from samsara.

So however, you can think that: ‘I’m opening door, say, of the liberation, enlightenment, the, for all sentient beings, say, the door of enlightenment, so you think that. Can think also door of pure land, can think that.

When you lit incense, then think that to eliminate the, say, all the stains, all the bad smell, the bad smell, the, say, evil nature of sentient beings, to eliminate, say, to have the smell of morality, praying: ‘May they all have pure, may they all, say, have pure morality’, so that. To eliminate bad smell, the bed, the evil nature of the sentient beings, to eliminate. Then you think, ‘to have the smell of pure morality’, that. So, like that.
So, stop there.

[Chant dedication in Tibetan]

[Offer up short mandala]

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, may the bodhicitta, source of all the happiness, success, for oneself, for sentient beings, may it be immediately actualized within one’s own heart, in one’s family members, in the hearts of all the students in this organization and in the hearts of all those supporters, and those who give up their lives to the organization, to offering service to sentient beings, teaching of the Buddha, so, and then in the hearts of all the rest of the sentient beings, without delay even a second.

Jang chub…

Due to all the three time merits collected by me, collected by others, may the bodhicitta be generated, especially in the hearts of all the leaders of this world.

Jang chub…

Especially, may the bodhicitta be generated in the hearts of all the people, then who has harmful thoughts to harm others, those who are called terrorists or whatever, so everyone who is young or old, those who have harmful thoughts, dangerous thoughts to harm others, then bodhicitta to be taken in their hearts, say, to generate the place of the, say, the evil thought.

[Long-life prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama]

Now pray, that Kyabje Kirti Tsenshab Rinpoche, then, say, will have stable life and have perfect, able to see perfect health, by having purified our karma to see unhealthy, then to turn Dharma wheel continuously to us sentient beings.

As well as other, Kyabje Denmo Locho Rinpoche, the Virtuous Friend.

Palden Lhame k _ dang….

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by oneself, three time merits collected by others, may I be able to offer limitless skies of benefit to sentient beings like Lama Tsongkhapa, by having the same qualities within me as Lama Tsongkhapa has from now on, in all the lifetimes, in every second to be like that. Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, just myself and sentient beings who has connection to me, merely, just even merely being in this universe, world, country, place, house, just by that, may the sentient beings living in this universe, world, country, place, house, may their negative karma immediately get purified. May they never ever get reborn in lower realms forever. May their sicknesses immediately get healed, and free from spirit harm and find faith in refuge, karma, actualize bodhicitta in all their hearts immediately. And may all their wishes be fulfilled immediately, and achieve enlightenment as quick as possible.

And may nobody….And may war, famine, disease, torture, poverty, sicknesses and dangers of fire, water, air, earthquakes wherever it is happening in any part of the world, may it be stopped immediately and may nobody in this world experience all these undesirable things forever.

And due to all the three time merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, may all the fundings be actualized, received, without delay even a second, and construction complete as quick as possible the 500-feet Maitreya statue and the statues in Tibet and statues in the rest of this world. Then may it become most beneficial, say, to the sentient beings, to bring them to enlightenment as quick as possible and cause them to actualize bodhicitta.

Then, service to the monasteries, tsa-tsas[?] and the Sanghas and [?] and the Buddhist monks and nuns in different parts of the world, service in different parts of the world to be most beneficial, to cause to generate compassion in their hearts.

And every center, including Vajrapani here, may it be most beneficial for all sentient beings and bring the sentient beings to enlightenment as quick as possible. Then receive all the needs and spread particular Lama Tsongkhapa’s teachings in the hearts of all sentient beings.

As well as the needs, all the projects, whatever every center has, including here, Vajrapani, to be actualized, to be actualized immediately without any obstacles.

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, that which are merely labeled by mind, may the I who is also merely labeled by mind, achieve the Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s enlightenment, which is also merely labeled by mind, lead all the sentient beings, who are also merely labeled by mind, to that Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s enlightenment, which is also merely labeled by mind, by myself alone, who is also merely labeled by mind.

So reality same, means all these are empty.

I dedicate all the merits to be able to follow the holy extensive deeds of Bodhisattvas Samantabhadra and Manjugosha as they realize. I dedicate all the merits in the same way three time buddhas dedicate their merits.

Lamrim dedication. Maybe today read in English.
